'Better deal' - Liverpool fans react as Man United agree Mason Mount transfer from Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is on his way to Manchester United, with new reports that a deal has been agreed.

Football London tonight confirmed a fee of £55m, with another potential £5m in add-ons, has been accepted by the Stamford Bridge side.

It is believed Mount has already agreed personal terms with United. The transfer was turning into something of a saga, but is now expected to be a formality from here. The MEN reports that he will pen a five-year contract.

Liverpool had been extensively linked with a move for Mount in recent months as Jurgen Klopp plots a midfield rebuild.

But a deal for Alexis Mac Allister quickly became top priority, and was sealed last month for a fee in the region of £35m.

Liverpool are still gunning for additional targets, with Khephren Thuram, Dominik Szoboszlai, Romeo Lavia and Manu Kone among those being tracked.

Reds fans have been reacting on social media to this evening's breaking transfer news around Mount.

Views have been mixed so far, with many fans pointing to the cheaper deal for Mac Allister as proof that Liverpool made the right early move. Others, however, are concerned by rivals stepping up their summer business and want to see more recruitment from Anfield chiefs as soon as possible.

@TheVirgilEffect said: "Szobo or Mount for £60M. I know who I’m taking, I just hope we get it done. That’s so cheap for a player of his quality and potential."

@AnythingLFC_ posted: "Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool for £35m. Mason Mount to Manchester United for £60m. I think I know which club got the better deal".

@ThoseScouseLads tweeted: "If Mason Mount is going for £60m with a year on his contract, Szoboszlai for £70m needs to be snapped up. It’s embarrassing that a club of our size can’t just pull the trigger on these sorts of deals".

While @CalvLyfeson wrote: "Mount is a good signing for United. A good age and homegrown. Would have loved him at Liverpool because I'd like to have seen what Jurgen could have got out of him. Less concerned with him in the hands of another manager."

@AzzurriLFC said: "Liverpool needed Mount more than United. Still no goals at midfield. United needed more of a Mac Allister to complement Casemiro and Fernandes. Mount is still much better than Eriksen though, and at £55m, I think it's a very fair deal for all parties".

@HenryJackson87 posted: "I wanted Mason Mount at Liverpool and I think he’s a really good signing for United. But equally, he’s not a signing that strikes massive fear into me for them."

@64_hero22 predicted: "Name me a player that’s gone to United and improved in the last 5 years. Mount is a good player but can’t see him pulling up trees at United to be honest."

And @ConnorMerritt95 posted: "Glad we aren’t paying £60m for Mount. Mind you, we won’t pay that for anybody. Horrible deal for United that, but that’s what they do, overpay."
