Bette Midler clashes with Piers Morgan over Meghan Markle's US election speech

Bette Midler has issued a typically blunt criticism of Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, after he called out Meghan Markle for her involvement in the forthcoming US election.

The actor and singer, who has clashed with Morgan before, was apparently not a fan of his reaction to Markle’s political speech at a Michelle Obama event.

Appearing in Obama’s When We All Vote campaign, Markle said that being complacent about voting was tantamount to complicity.

“If you aren’t part of the solution, you’re part of the problem,” she said in her speech. “If you are complacent, you are complicit.

“We can make a difference in this election and we will make a difference in this election.”

Morgan responded by calling for Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, to have their royal titles removed.

”The Queen must strip the Sussexes of their titles,“ he tweeted. ”They can’t remain as royals & spout off about foreign elections in such a brazenly partisan way.”

Midler responded: “Oh f*** off.”

When We All Vote, a non-profit launched in 2018 by Michelle Obama, held a week-long “week of action” with the goal of encouraging more women to register to vote.

The organisation is co-chaired by celebrities including Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monáe, Rita Wilson, Selena Gomez, Shonda Rhimes, Tracee Ellis Ross and Kerry Washington.
