Bethesda's Response To Walmart's Massive E3 'Leak' Is Priceless

Have you heard the news? RAGE 2, Gears of War 5, Borderlands 3, Forza “Horizons” 5, Just Cause 4 and many other highly anticipated but unannounced games are up for pre-order ahead of this year’s E3 convention. Or at least that’s what someone in Walmart Canada’s online retail department thought, before quickly deleting every entry.

Curiously, the briefly published wave of pre-order titles mixed unannounced games with sequels we already know about, such as Beyond Good & Evil 2. That lends a bit of credibility to the listings, as if someone pulled the trigger too early. Whether or not the respective publishers will announce these new games is anyone’s guess, but Bethesda’s response to the leak was a breath of fresh air.

Rather than issuing the kind of dismissive, boilerplate statement we’re used to (something along the lines of “we don’t comment on rumors and speculation,”) the community manager for RAGE decided to school Walmart on the proper display of its box art.

The official Bethesda Twitter account then responded to the “correction” with one word: “Dude.”

Does this confirm the existence of RAGE 2? Of course not, but it sure distances itself from a denial! I just love seeing marketing tactics like this that get people talking and laughing, rather than playing by the old boring rulebook.

At E3 2018 Bethesda will once again host its annual “BE3″ showcase. Last year’s was an absolute blast, framed as a carnival with attractions, food and drink themed around various Bethesda titles, a Quake Champions tournament, a Ferris wheel, and a balloon artist who kicked out Vault Boy balloon creations.

The highlight this year — as with every year — should be the game announcements Bethesda delivers during its official press conference. I also can’t wait to see what they’re bringing to the Switch.
