"Fallout 5" has long been confirmed by Bethesda, but the studio has not shared any progress or development updates since they first talked about the game.
The lack of updates has led multiple sources to speculate on its timeline.
Bethesda Report Shares Update on 'Fallout 5'
ComicBook Gaming shared a new report which speculates on the potential release date of "Fallout 5," and the bad news is that the open-world RPG from Bethesda Game Studios is reportedly still very, very far away.
"Fallout 4" itself is 11 years old, and "Fallout 76" is eight years old, meaning there has not been a new mainline "Fallout" game the current console generation, which includes the PlayStation 5.
According to the report, there is still a lot on Bethesda's plate before it can focus on "Fallout 5" and proceed to its full development and production.
ComicBook Gaming claims that "The Elder Scrolls 6" is currently slotted to release sometime between 2028 and 2029, and this represents a five to six-year turnaround time from the last AAA game development of the studio, which was "Starfield."
'Fallout 5' Release Is For Next-Gen Consoles
Should "Fallout 5" be the next release after "The Elder Scrolls VI" under Bethesda, it is possible that the same timeline could be observed. This means that the timeline could place "Fallout 5's" release schedule somewhere around 2033 to 2035.
Should this be accurate, it likewise means that the game that is meant for next-generation consoles from the likes of Sony and Microsoft. Both Sony and Microsoft are expected to launch their next-generation hardware in 2027, with the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Project Helix both reportedly targeting that window.
ComicBook said that there are two ways for Bethesda to fast-track "Fallout 5's" release window. Either the game will be worked on by an entirely different studio or plans are changed to make it a two-studio development where a third-party will work alongside Bethesda Game Studios.
Both options seem impossible to happen based on speculations.
Here Are Bethesda's Plans
Previous rumors have claimed that a "Fallout" remaster may be released ahead of "Fallout 5," giving fans a remake ahead of a new mainline game. According to said rumors, this remake is expected to arrive next year.
Supposedly, both remasters of "Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas" are being developed, and these will presumably tide fans over until the mainline entry arrives.
That said, "Fallout" fans would still have to wait for a long time before the next mainline game of the franchise follows as there is no official update from Bethesda about the fifth mainline title.
