Bethesda fan gives up on The Elder Scrolls 6 and decides to make their own Indie Scrolls with big Daggerfall energy: "I have great plans"

Bethesda keeps saying The Elder Scrolls 6 production is going well, which is reassuring, but it doesn't make the clock tick any faster. So one fan decided to be productive with their waiting room boredom and started creating their own indie version of a The Elder Scrolls game – The Indie Scrolls.

The, apparently, solo developer has been tracking their development progress since March 13 across social media, announcing their intentions via Twitter post: "Day 1 making my own TES until TES 6 goes out!" The developer has now reached Day 116 of The Indie Scrolls in Unreal Engine 5, and the pixel art fan game is looking lovely with evocative character design and an array of fantasy creatures.

"I have great plans that involve an Empress, an Evil mage and time travels (maybe)," The Indie Scrolls shares in a Twitter reply. "I don't have a strictly roadmap, but at the moment I'm doing all the characters and base systems/mechanics!"

Some of the characters The Indie Scrolls has shared so far includes an irate, gold-finned mermaid, a gladiator "Dogman" that attempts to strike the player with his leather bull whip, and an armored skeleton that topples into a heap of yellow bones once defeated. The enemies with more flesh on them, instead, collapse in what looks like a spill of bloody barbecue sauce.

It's clear The Indie Scrolls is in its earliest stages of existence – remember, it's only Day 116. But I'm glad to see evidence of its developer maintaining the balance between silly make-believe and real high fantasy that Bethesda's genuine Elder Scrolls games handle so well.

"The goal here is to make a modern TES in terms of system and mechanics, but with an old school graphics," says The Indie Scrolls on Twitter. Great, now we have to wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 and this inspired fan game.

The Elder Scrolls 6 development roadmap is unaffected by Xbox's mass layoffs, Bethesda says, despite devs' fears of delays and crunch.
