Bethesda has confirmed several long-rumored "Fallout" projects, laying out a roadmap that includes remasters of both "Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas," alongside a new prequel expansion tied directly to "Fallout 3."
The announcement came through a statement from Bethesda's social media page shared just weeks after Xbox's latest round of layoffs affected a significant portion of the studio's workforce.
Bethesda Confirms The Future of 'Fallout'
In the latest post from Bethesda Game Studios' X account, the game studio has detailed several projects they have in the works across its major franchises. Most notably, "Fallout" received the most attention in this latest announcement as the company detailed a lot to look forward to from the franchise.
It was also confirmed that "Fallout 5" is now in pre-production, positioning it as the studio's primary long-term focus for the series once "The Elder Scrolls 6" releases.
Bethesda also officially confirmed an ongoing collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind "Fallout: New Vegas," on a new non-numbered "Fallout" title, following earlier reports about the partnership.
Alongside those bigger-picture plans, Bethesda confirmed that remasters of "Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas" are actively in development. Rumors about updated versions of both games have circulated for years, but this marked the first time Bethesda has publicly acknowledged the projects as real.
The studio did not share release dates or gameplay details for either remaster, though Howard's statement indicated development is underway.

'Fallout 3' Remake Confirmed by Bethesda
Despite its popularity, "Fallout 3" has remained locked to older hardware, unavailable on modern platforms, even as interest in the franchise has surged following the success of the "Fallout" television series across its first two seasons, said ComicBook Gaming.
A proper remaster would give both longtime fans and newer audiences drawn in by the show a way to experience the game on modern platforms. And that is exactly what Bethesda is set to deliver to the gaming industry now.
Originally released in 2008, "Fallout 3" followed the player character out of Vault 101 and into the irradiated ruins of Washington, D.C., known in-game as the Capital Wasteland.
The game won widespread critical acclaim upon release, praised for its open world design, branching narrative choices, and dark humor woven throughout its post-apocalyptic setting.
It later received several expansions, including "Operation: Anchorage," "The Pitt," "Broken Steel," "Point Lookout," and "Mothership Zeta," each adding new areas and story content to the base game.
'Fallout 3' Is Also Getting a Prequel Game
Beyond the remaster news, Bethesda also confirmed a new expansion for "Fallout 76" titled "Raven Rock," set to release sometime in 2027.
According to the studio, "Raven Rock" will tell a story taking place before the events of "Fallout 3," with the location itself referring to a former military base that becomes the main command center for the Enclave. They are the villainous faction featured prominently throughout "Fallout 3."
Details on "Raven Rock" remain limited for now, but a prequel centered on that location could shed light on how the Enclave came to control the base in the first place, filling in gaps within the franchise's broader timeline.
Since "Fallout 76" already exists as the earliest chronological entry in the series, "Raven Rock's" more direct ties to "Fallout 3" make it one of the more anticipated expansions Bethesda has planned for the game.
It is expected that the expansion will arrive earlier than the "Fallout 3" remake.
