Staff at a bookies were threatened with a hammer during an armed robbery in Bolton.
The offenders reportedly demanded cash before speeding away from the scene in a stolen Vauxhall Astra, police said.
GMP Traffic officers were called to the scene following the robbery on Sunday morning, at the Betfred on Market Street, Farnworth.
Police in the patrol car saw the grey Astra on Smith's Road, Bolton, and managed to block the driver in.
The Astra ended up mounting the pavement then smashing into a fence, before the trio got out and ran away.
Police detained one man at the scene.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, and drug driving.
He remains in police custody for questioning, a GMP spokesman said.
A GMP spokesman said: "At about 11.35am on Sunday, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Betfred on Market Street, Farnworth.
"The offenders had gone inside and took a quantity of cash. They threatened staff with a hammer.
"The offenders then made off in a grey Vauxhall Astra. Members of the public contacted police.
"The patrol car blocked the Astra. The Astra mounted the pavement and collided with the fencing.
"The offenders were then chased on foot by traffic officers. A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, burglar and drug driving."
