Bestival blog: Gary Numan's weird festival diet

How was your show? "Good time. No technical problems. Everyone played well. It's always a little bit weird in the daytime because I'm used to lights and all the rest of it, but I'm kind of getting off on the atmosphere. The stage is very high so you're a little bit disconnected, but that's a minor quibble. The people are lovely, and they're even dancing to the songs they don't know."

How does Bestival differ from other festivals? "It reminds me of a Medieval pageant, you get on the stage and there's all these fantastic costumes. They've organised themselves. But you should ask me later tonight. I think we're here 'til 3am, so I'm definitely going to try and watch a lot of bands."

What would you have come as for the underwater theme? "Is there's an underwater theme? I didn't know that. I should have made the effort."

What's the best costume you've seen? "I saw a starfish, there was quite a few of them. And a jellyfish - I could only really watch from the audience, though. I saw a Spongebob Squarepants from the stage, too."

What's the strangest thing you've eaten? "I've just played so I haven't even eaten anything today. I got a visit from my wife on the tour bus so I guess ... pubic hair? Oh, and I had a fly that went into my mouth onstage. That wasn't pleasant."

Bestival or Worstival? "Oh it's definitely good. We had a nightmare getting onsite, but it's a good day. Everyone tells me how great this festival is and I can see why.
