Best winter coats for women to keep out the cold and rain

The time has come again to stow away your swimwear, crop tops, and summer shorts, and unpack your cosy jumpers, roll necks, and warm trousers as the colder months roll in. And what better way to commemorate this transitional moment than investing in a new winter coat?

Few things are as essential as quality outerwear, especially when living in the reliably unreliable UK where we have to tackle rain, wind, and snow throughout the season. If you’re in the market for a style that you’ll want to wear for years to come, look for neutral colours in classic silhouettes (trench, double breasted, and wrap - we’re looking at you), and don’t be afraid to up your budget for a style that will stand the test of time.

You may be partial to a waterproof number that will protect your outfit from the elements, or maybe following the trends is your thing, which means it’s leather you’ll be on the lookout for. You may even prefer to be enveloped in an ultra-chic oversized wool design - just make sure you rememeber your umbrella or else risk dampening your outfit, and your mood.

When styling up your new purchase, most coats are all-enveloping so a flash of sleeve, a pop of roll neck, or a swish of a trouser leg is what we’re looking for. If you’re into colourblocking, you could opt for brights beneath a neutral design, or to keep your look classic, go for tonal neutral pieces for a look à la The Row - and amp it up with some chunky hoops.

We’ve done the legwork and put together a selection that will have you strutting the chilly pavements in style. Happy shopping.
