6 best TV shows streaming August 9-15 on Netflix, Apple TV Plus, Hulu and more of the best streaming services

Daniel Dae Kim in Butterfly on Prime Video.

While there aren't too many new streaming TV shows debuting this week, I've found everything that is coming so you can find something new to watch.

I'm What to Watch's streaming editor and very week I check what's new on streaming to create a list of the must-watch new series. This week it's new additions coming between Saturday, August 2 and Friday, August 8.

Netflix is keeping this list alive with three of the six new releases in the list, but a few other streaming services have an entry available too.

Use our list of the best streaming deals to sign up for something new. Otherwise let's find you something new to watch on streaming services this week...

Alien: Earth — Hulu / Disney Plus

  • Hulu / Disney Plus sci-fi horror series streams from Tuesday, August 12

The first ever TV show in the Alien franchise releases this week. It'll come to Hulu in the US and Disney Plus elsewhere; two episodes release in the US on Tuesday, August 12 and they arrive the day later everywhere else, before both roll into weekly releases.

Alien: Earth follows the mysterious crash of a space research ship into the Earth, which as you can guess brings a dangerous threat to the planet. A team of soldiers is led to face the danger but they face threats they can't have predicted.

Butterfly — Prime Video

  • Prime Video espionage thriller releases on Wednesday, August 13

Home of spy thrillers Prime Video has its latest release this week: six-part action series Butterfly releases in its entirety on Wednesday, August 13.

This series stars Daniel Dae Kim as a former intelligence operative who faked his death to get away from a dangerous agency. However when he learns that his daughter now works for this group, he has to travel to South Korea to try and find her and convince her to leave, all while the agency wants to take him out.

In the Mud — Netflix

  • Netflix Argentinian drama releases on Thursday, August 14

Our token Netflix international series this week is called In The Mud, hailing from Argentina, and all of its episodes releases on Thursday, August 14.

In The Mud is a prison drama about five female convicts who survive a harrowing accident en route to the jail, which bonds them for life. This bond becomes useful during their sentence as the pressures of the prison bring threats and dangers.

The Kingdom — ESPN Plus

  • ESPN Plus sports docuseries premieres on Thursday, August 14

I don't believe I've ever featured ESPN Plus on this list before, but the sports streaming service has a rare new series out this week. All six episodes land on the platform on Thursday, August 14 (no word on an international release).

The Kingdom takes a look at the Kansas City Chiefs, following their extensive history and what the team's fortunes have been like recently. ESPN followed the players, coaches and families to chart the most recent season for the team (which, spoiler alert, they won).

Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser — Netflix

  • Netflix culture docuseries releases on Friday, August 15

A new Netflix docuseries which may go over the heads of non-US viewers is Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser, a three-parter which releases onto the platform on Friday, August 15.

This series looks at the legacy of noughties US reality show The Biggest Loser, a competition series which tasked overweight people with losing weight. Fit for TV looks at the rise of this series' popularity, talking to producers and hosts, but also what impact participation had on contestants, both during filming and afterwards.

Limitless: Live Better Now — Hulu / Disney Plus

  • Hulu / Disney Plus health docuseries premieres on Friday, August 15

Another health-related docuseries, Limitless: Live Better Now is technically a second season to the Chris Hemsworth-helmed Limitless. It releases to Hulu and Disney Plus on Friday, August 15 (just the latter outside the US).

This series follows the Aussie Thor star as he continues his quest to live a better life. We'll see him learn Buddhist traditions to deal with pain, go ice climbing in the Alps and... take up drumming for Ed Sheeran? All of which are designed to test him in ways that improve him.
