Chelsea are preparing to face Leeds United this evening as Frank Lampard's side return to Premier League action.
The Blues will be looking to a return to winning ways on Saturday evening after the draw against league leaders Tottenham in their last outing, while Leeds will be carrying momentum after their impressive victory last week at Everton.
Lampard made two changes to the side that faced Spurs for Saturday's match, with midweek hero Olivier Giroud coming into the side ahead of Tammy Abraham.
The Frenchman scored all four of his side's goals against Sevilla in the Europa League clash on Wednesday.
Kai Havertz also returns to the line-up after fully recovering from coronavirus and restoring his match fitness, while Mateo Kovacic drops to the bench.
Chelsea fans on Twitter were delighted to see Giroud given his chance in the Premier League, with some supporters expressing their preference to see him continue to start over Abraham.
@Chelseatransfer2 : Best team in England.
@CFCKhrane_: We're winning the league.
@90sSophie : Giroud will receive all the assists he needs today.
@jzee4edu : Good Lampard is gradually coming to his senses by realising how awful it has been dropping Giroud to the bench for Tammy Abraham. No disrespect to Tammy, but Giroud should be starting. Good link up play, good in the air, can hold up ball for teammates.
@Brian25403252 : The Gentleman Giroud finally earns what he deserves, Chelsea for the W.
@iArgueAlways : Lampard and pressure. We all know the lineup before he dropped it.... You can't drop a player that scored 4 for one that cannot score 2. Chilwell assist is guaranteed today.
@Xpgamer11 : Good to see Giroud ahead of Abraham, though I wish Lampard somehow added Kovacic to the starting lineup but it's a packed house now. Good to see more players performing at high level.
@nnewman1993 : I think it would’ve been hard to justify Giroud on the bench, and keeps in line with FL’s meritocracy philosophy. Pulisic could have a devastating impact once Leeds get tired.
@CFC_Shadow : Giroud and Werner starting is good but I don’t think Werner is best on the wing cuz his passing and crossing is a bit dodgy but hopefully his pace and finishing will make up for it.
@HonestCFCGuy : Plan of attack: feed Giroud and allow him to distribute through to Werner who is out pacing the defense.
