The Sainsbury's home crinkle bedding set was one of the biggest surprises of my testing, thanks to its exceptional softness. In fact, it quickly became one of those sets I didn’t want to take off the bed. The reverse has a cosy, brushed finish that feels warm and comforting against the skin, while the crinkled top layer adds texture and gives it a more expensive, relaxed look than the price tag suggests. It’s the sort of bedding that makes your bed instantly inviting without any effort.
It isn’t the most breathable option I tried, so hot sleepers may find it a little too insulating during warmer weather. However, if you prefer bedding that feels cocooning and comfortable, especially through autumn and winter, it’s excellent value for money at just £22. It also impressed after washing, drying surprisingly quickly on a clothes horse and emerging with its textured finish intact, meaning there’s no need to worry about ironing.

Made from 100 per cent cotton, it offers a nice level of softness and feels breathable enough for comfortable year-round use. It washed without losing its shape or colour and remained comfortable after repeated use. Unlike some linen bedding that can feel stiff at first, this set is impressively soft straight from the packet and only becomes more comfortable with use and washing.
The design is equally refined, with understated stitched edging around the duvet cover and pillowcases and discreet clear buttons that let the quality of the fabric do the talking. There’s also a wide selection of colours, from soft blush pink to slate blue and more neutral shades. The only trade-off is that, true to linen’s nature, it emerges from the wash looking noticeably more creased than cotton alternatives. What is the best supermarket bedding?
Overall, while each supermarket bedding set brought something different to the test, the Sainsbury's Home crinkle bedding set emerged as the winner. The set delivered the best balance of comfort, style and value, with an unmatched softness that made it even more difficult to leave the bed each morning. Though not the most breathable option, its cosy brushed underside and elevated textured finish gave it a premium feel far beyond its £18 price tag. I also loved the look of the M&S pure cotton narrow stripe ruffle bedding set while the supermarket’s linen bedding is high quality and costs a fraction of the price of other brands.
