Best Scots words for animals from cushie doo to yellae airsie

In Scotland, the range of words used as names for our animals are as varied (and fascinating) as the country's wildlife.

From birds like owls and wood pigeons to wee beasties like spiders and wasps, us Scots have some belting names for most creatures.

Some are well known (coo for cow and dug for dog) while others are less so (the Scots for parrot is papingo), here are our favourites.

Baudron - Cat

Brock  - a badger
