Best RBs available for the Dolphins entering Day 3 of 2020 draft

Surprise! No one thought we’d be here this late in the game talking about running backs for the Miami Dolphins, yet here we are. The Dolphins, despite their slew of NFL Draft capital, opted against investing early in a running back and instead will likely use one of their nine scheduled selections here on Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft to boost their backfield.

Miami has invested heavily into rebuilding their offensive line and, by extension the running game, that much is well established. But who might now come into the fray as a late addition to Miami’s backfield and compliment the presence of RB Jordan Howard? There’s plenty of talent left, even if we didn’t expect to see some of these names in the fray for the Dolphins.

Here are some good fits among available running backs entering Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft.

RB Eno Benjamin, Arizona State

RB Anthony McFarland, Maryland

RB Lamical Perine, Florida

RB Michael Warren II, Cincinnati

RB DeeJay Dallas, Miami

With Miami’s decisions to forego drafting running backs on Day 2 of this year’s draft, it seems the team may be looking for a more economic and two-pronged approach to the backfield. That makes sense when you consider how much the New England Patriots have implemented this approach and how many connections the Dolphins have to that organization. McFarland and Benjamin would be the best pass catching presences, while Dallas, Perine and Warren are more “every down” types with varying degrees of ceilings and floors based on their own individual skill sets.

Miami will get another body in the backfield, make no mistake about it. The question now is how much longer will they wait.
