Best PvP shotguns in Destiny 2

Every PvP loadout in Destiny 2 needs a reliable special weapon to go alongside your primary. Most of the time, it’s either a fusion rifle or a shotgun, with shotguns being a superior choice on tight maps. You likely have been killed by one of these shotguns in the Crucible, so it’s time to get one yourself.

Here are the best PvP shotguns in Destiny 2 as of the current meta, and how to get them.

5 best PvP shotguns in Destiny 2

Someday

One of the easiest-to-get legendary shotguns for PvP is Someday. It’s a Precision Frame Kinetic shotgun, one of the best PvP shotgun archetypes, and it can get the classic Threat Detector with Opening Shot combination.

You can get this shotgun from the Pale Heart. It’s a craftable weapon, meaning you can select the perks you want and enhance them almost immediately after acquiring all the patterns.

Conditional Finality

Conditional Finality isn’t the most accessible shotgun in Destiny 2, but it’s well worth using in PvP once you get it. It’s by far the most consistent shotgun, despite being 55 RPM (identical to Aggressive Frame) and having low range.

Conditional Finality is a Stasis Exotic shotgun with a trait Split Decision, which makes the weapon shoot one Stasis pellet and one Fire pellet. Thanks to Paracausal Pellets, landing all shots freezes or ignites targets, respectively. This can be a strong counter to Supers, like Well of Radiance.

Getting Conditional Finality can be a pain, though. It’s a raid Exotic that drops from Nezarec, the final encounter of the Root of Nightmares raid. You must wait until Root of Nightmares is the weekly featured raid, get a team of six players, and get lucky when farming the encounter.

Prophet of Doom

Another raid shotgun (legendary this time) that performs well in PvP is the Prophet of Doom. It’s an Arc Precision Frame shotgun with perk combinations like Threat Detector with Opening Shot or Closing Time.

It comes from the Garden of Salvation raid, which isn’t the most fun raid in the game, but it has other solid weapons, including Zealot’s Reward and Ancient Gospel. All of these weapons drop from the second and third encounters, which are quite easy to complete.

The Chaperone

The Chaperone has been one of the most used shotguns for years now. It’s an Exotic that you can get very early in the game, and it hits like a truck from a mile away. The Exotic trait, Precision Slug, fires a single-round precision slug, just like legendary slug shotguns.

Slug shotguns intrinsically have high range, and The Chaperone is no exception. With a 100 range, you can snatch kills from farther away than almost any shotgun in the game. It’s also in the Kinetic slot, leaving you room to run weapons like Exalted Truth or Igneous Hammer as your primary weapon.

The Inquisitor

The best shotgun in Destiny 2 is The Inquisitor. It’s an Arc slug shotgun from Trials of Osiris that can roll Lone Wolf or even Slideshot with Opening Shot. It has high range and handling and goes into the Energy slot, allowing you to pair it with Rose or Redrix’s Estoc.

If you don’t have The Inquisitor and don’t want to farm Trials of Osiris despite the latest Flawless changes, there’s also Unvoiced from the Sundered Doctrine dungeon. Unvoiced can only roll Closing Time in the fourth column, but you can still squeeze out maximum range with high handling.
