Chelsea fans are singing the praises of VAR this evening (Wednesday) after Ajax had a goal disallowed in their Champions League clash in Amsterdam.
Quincy Promes looked to have given the Dutch side the lead in Amsterdam against Chelsea , tapping home from close range at the far post from Hakim Ziyech's deflected cross around ten minutes before the break.
But while the linesman did not raise his flag at the time, the goal was reviewed by VAR, with the video assistant referee system in use for the Champions League clash.
And the decision was made to disallow the goal, with replays showing that Promes' arm was in an offside position at the time of the cross.
It was a relief for Frank Lampard's Blues, with several Chelsea defenders appealing for offside as Promes tapped home, but it was disappointment for the hosts, having thought that they had taken the lead.
But unsurprisingly, many Chelsea fans were relieved to see the decision go in favour, with the Blues going into the break level as a result.
