'Best piece of business all summer' Leeds United fans react to reports of Kalvin Phillips contract offer

Leeds United have enjoyed a productive week in the transfer market, bringing in a host of fresh faces for the upcoming campaign, while also cashing in on some for the squad's fringe players.

But while new signings such as Helder Costa have arrived in time for next week's first pre-season friendlies, attention at the club is now shifting towards keeping hold of the club's key existing players.

Kalvin Phillips had the season of his life last year as he came of age under Marcelo Bielsa's coaching and firmly established himself as one of the fan's favourite players of recent years.

With such an impressive season, it was only natural that he would attract attention from Premier League sides, with newly promoted Aston Villa quick to register their interest this summer, amid talk that Leeds had slapped a £30million price tag on the midfielder.

Phillips' current contract at Elland Road is set to expire in 2021, with the club knowing that an improved deal reflecting the progress the 23-year-old made last season would be needed in order to put any speculation over his future to an end.

And following reports on Friday evening that the club have opened talks with Phillips over a deal that will make him among the club's highest earners, Leeds United fans have reacted with glee to the news.
