Best pictures and outfits from an amazing Grand National weekend at Aintree racecourse

It was another memorable year as the Grand National returned to Aintree racecourse for 2019 with tens of thousands of people attending the three-day event.

The festival got off to a very wet start on Thursday as the heavens opened shortly after people starting arriving and it continued to rain throughout most of the day.

But the party atmosphere wasn’t dampened by the bad weather, and racegoers taking shelter in the equestrian centre made the most of the live music, with an impromptu dance off to Tina Turner’s Rolling Down the River.

Thankfully the weather dried up in time for Ladies Day and it was time to focus on the fashion.

Men and women arrived at Aintree in style, with some truly stunning outfits on display, with popular trends including polka dots, monochrome and colour blocking.

Racegoer Sue Moon, 54, from Chorley was crowned best dressed by the Style Award judges, bagging herself a £35,000 Range Rover Evoke and a year’s supply of Chi Chi London dresses.

Then it was time for the big one as the Grand National got underway, on what was certainly the best day weather-wise.

Tiger Roll took first place, followed by Magic of Light in second and Rathvinden in third.

Here we look back at some of the best pictures from a fantastic weekend of racing, fashion and fun.

Roll on Grand National 2020.
