Best Perk for solo play in Killing Floor 3

Killing Floor 3 offers six Perks at launch for players to enjoy, but things are very different when you're going alone.

In my first few hours, squad-based play appears to be the optimal way to enjoy the game. While it's more fun and easier to win, your goals might be different than those of your squad. Moreover, there's a narrative campaign that you might like, and solo play is the best option for such cases.

However, not every Perk is going to feel nice when playing alone, and there are two clear choices.

Best single-player Perks in Killing Floor 3

At launch, we get to choose from six different options:

  • Sharpshooter
  • Commando
  • Engineer
  • Medic
  • Firebug
  • Ninja

Every Perk has its respective strengths and weaknesses. The aim in solo play is to use a Perk that's well-rounded in terms of abilities and attributes. I strongly feel that the two following choices will be more suitable when you're all alone in Nightfall.

Commando

The Commando Perk has one of the best, well-rounded kits in the entire game. The Hallicon drone doesn't make you feel alone, and it's powerful. While the drone comes with limited ammo, its shots can one-shot most Zeds. I used it randomly at first, but it's best to activate it towards the end of a round when there are bosses to clear.

If you get cornered (highly possible when playing alone), your grenades allow you to open up space. Sure, you'll have to aim and be careful of your throw, but the grenades have come in handy in certain situations.

The Commando uses plenty of assault-based weapons that have decent range, great ammo capacity, and satisfactory damage. As you earn more credits, you can keep upgrading your arsenal to raise your chances of success. The Commando is one Perk that fits any of the three roles (damage, survival, and support) perfectly. This is the best choice if you're looking to dip your foot into solo play.

Engineer

The Engineer is a good alternative to consider if you don't want to choose Commando in solo play. One of this Perk's greatest strength are the twin turrets attached to your power pack. When active, they will shred enemies at a rapid rate and allow you to escape tight situations. The turrets can be further improved as you play more and gain proficiency points.

This Perk also offers plenty of ways to crowd control enemies with additional skills that you get to unlock later. This allows you to raise your chances of success, especially when you're playing alone. The Engineer isn't my favorite but it's a really good alternative for any missions that involve solo play.
