'He was my best friend' Pal of tragic Drumchapel boy gives tearful tribute as he lays flowers at building site

One of Shea Ryan's best friends wiped his eyes as he laid flowers in the 10-year-old’s memory at the scene with his mum yesterday.

The boy had raced down to the spot in Drumchapel after hearing his pal, who he had known for several years, had been involved in a serious incident.

He told the Daily Record: “Shea was the person you always had the most fun with. He was my best friend.”

Meanwhile, Shea’s headteacher Margaret Coyle, from Camstradden Primary School, said news of the youngster’s death would have a big impact of pupils, who are set to return to school next month.

She said: “We are devastated to hear the tragic news and our thoughts and prayers are with Shea’s family and friends.

“In the short period of time he’s been with us at the school, Shea has made many friends with school staff and the children.

“Everyone will be shocked to learn of his death and we will do all that we can to offer support to the family and wider community in Drumchapel.”

Shea tragically died after falling into a water-filled hole at the Scottish Water site in Drumchapel.

His panic stricken friends had raised the alarm just after 10pm on Thursday night and a rescue operation was launched.

However, emergency services were unable to save Shea who later died in hospital.
