Ogre might be one of the weaker characters in Megabonk, but you can certainly use him competitively with the correct build.
Ogre has plenty of issues, which largely stem from his default build. He is slow, lacks damage potential, and doesn't have the best defenses. This makes it crucial for you to build him properly to have any chances of success.

How to unlock Ogre in Megabonk
Ogre has a relatively straightforward set of unlock conditions involving killing 15,000 goblins cumulatively. This is a simple task, but it will take some time depending on your luck, build, and average duration of your runs.
You'll also need to kill 2,000 enemies to unlock the Axe, Ogre's signature weapon. You'll need to kill the required number of enemies with the Sword to get the Axe. Use Sir Oofie to complete this task without any issues.
Let's look at what I consider the best Ogre build in Megabonk.
Best Megabonk Ogre build
The table below has all the components to make Ogre strong in the meta.
Type | Best Choices | Good Choices |
---|---|---|
Weapons | Axe (Primary) Aura Aegis Sword |
Lightning Staff Bone Chunkers |
Tomes | Attack Speed Duration Size |
Luck Agility XP |
Items | Beefy Ring Gym Sauce Moldy Cheese |
Turbo Socks Za Warudo Clover |
The primary aim of this build is to help Ogre level up quicker, which will scale up with Axe's passive. The passive provides +1% damage at every level, with a maximum possible pool of +50% damage. This is also a significant reason you should choose Aura as the second-best choice.

Not only does Aura take care of enemies close to Ogre, but it also provides him with passive XP. These XP will make up for Ogre's early-game sluggishness. You can also go for Aegis, which protects him and damages the enemy when they attack.
For range, both Bone and Lightning Staff are great choices. I am particularly fond of the former, but the shocks provided by Lightning Staff can be beneficial.
For tomes, I have opted out of Damage. His passive with Axe takes care of that, so I have instead gone for Attack Speed. This improves the Axe's damage and allows Ogre to do more damage. Your next best choices are Duration and Size. The former extends the life of Axe, while the latter enlarges them (resulting in more damage).
While there's relative freedom with the items you can use with Ogre, the Beefy Ring and Gym Sauce will be important. Beefy Ring allows you to scale up the max HP of Ogre while the heals damage enemies. Gym Saunce provides a sweet +10% damage boost from every source.
You can either go for Moldy Cheese (to do poison damage) or Turbo Socks (for better mobility). Just remember to be extremely cautious, as Ogre is a low-tier character in the current meta. You'll need to be patient and concentrate on farming for the early part of the game.
