Best of #BrexitMeHole as hashtag trending on Twitter in Ireland during debate

The Irish public had a bit of a laugh over Brexit on Twitter on Tuesday night as Boris Johnson was humiliated in the House of Commons.

While Westminster was in chaos, the hashtag #BrexitMeHole was trending in Ireland.

The British Prime Minister is now to table a motion to call for an early general election.

It follows a vote in which MPs passed a motion by 328 to 301 to seize parliamentary time on Wednesday.

Mr Johnson now faces a new crisis as Tory rebels and opposition parties seize control of Parliament in a bid to stop the UK crashing out of the EU on October 31.

After the embarrassing result, Mr Johnson's strategy guru Dominic Cummings allegedly shouted at Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn: "Come on Jeremy let’s do this election, don’t be scared."

And Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg was accused of disrespecting the UK Parliament after slouching on the British Government front bench during the emergency debate.

However, Irish people saw the funny side of it all and took to social media using the new hashtag.

Here are some of the best tweets from Tuesday night.

One user said: "Man, peeps are so mean to JRM, he’s only sitting like this because he has no backbone whatsoever. #brexitmehole."

Another retweeted the video of someone in the UK appearing to cycle into water behind a British TV reporter, saying: "Seems like the logical thing to do considering the circumstances.. #brexitmehole."

A third tweeted: "Never interfere with the enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself. #brexitmehole."
