Best new food tech: 5 smart products for your future kitchen

We read a lot about the internet of things and that there will be 200 billion connected devices by 2020.

Our kitchens are first in line to be “disrupted” by technology — from the food we eat to the way we prepare our ingredients.

Here’s a taste (pun intended) of what’s to come.

Foodmarble digestive tracker

I always recommend seeing a specialist for medical diagnostics. Especially after once coming across an “at home ultrasound kit”. But the Foodmarble is an exception: it tracks your body’s ongoing response to the food you’re consuming. Take breath tests, and log your food in the app to build your own digestive profile. It’s taken the States by storm.

Kuvings smart blender

A smart, or at least smarter, blender developed by the German design brand. Set it to different options from “crushed ice” and“whip”, to “foam”. It even has a timer so that you know exactly how long to blend your soup for.

Smarter fridge cam

This clever, connected fridge camera will takes a photo every time you open the fridge door, and share it via an app that synchs up with your phone. The idea is that you will produce less food waste if you know what’s in your fridge while you’re at the supermarket.

SMART popcorn maker

A retro popcorn maker to make your Game of Thrones finale marathon next month feel a little less lonely. It uses hot air to pop the corn rather than oil, so it’s healthier, although I highly recommend covering the corn with butter, salt and sugar once it’s done.

Mitte water purifier

This purifies water up to 60 times more than ordinary filtered water, and allows you to “customise” your water with different minerals. From zero-sodium “balance” to “alkaline” with antioxidants, good after a workout. I’m number 6,029 on the waiting list.
