Best moments of Premier League lockdown as competition nears return

After three long months, the Premier League is on the verge of returning to action as the 2019/20 campaign looks to finally head towards a conclusion.

The competition came to an abrupt halt in mid-March as the devastating coronavirus outbreak swept across the country, ultimately leading to the government to enforce a lockdown.

That meant training grounds of the top-flight clubs were also closed, leaving their start players with more time on their hands at home.

While all maintained their fitness and skill levels during their extended period at home, others chose to lighten the mood before sharing their escapades on social media.

And as the Premier League nears it's long-awaited return, there seems to be no better time to take a look back at some of the coronavirus shutdown's most entertaining moments.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's dance moves

PERRIE EDWARDS AND ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN SHOW OFF FUNKY DANCE MOVES IN SELF-ISOLATION

When you're spending lockdown at home with your girlfriend who happens to be a pop star, it comes as little surprise when you start busting out the moves.

Liverpool's energetic midfielder wasted little time in showing what he had learned from beau Perrie Edwards, who is part of the chart-topping British girlband Little Mix.

In one of the early lockdown highlights, the pair were seen performing an intricate dance routine together with fans later labelling the clip as 'couple goals'.

Reds supporters will no doubt be waiting with baited breath to see whether Edwards has also helped choreograph a new celebration for Oxlade-Chamberlain when Jurgen Klopp's men resume their title charge.

The Stay At Home challenge

MAN UTD'S MARCUS RASHFORD CELEBRATES 'SCORING' WITH LOO ROLL

The Stay At Home challenge was a regular fixture of the early weeks of the coronavirus lockdown, with stars from across the world showing off their ability to play keepy-uppy with some loo roll.

Man Utd's Marcus Rashford was among those to share his effort online, with the England international's particularly poignant as he ramped up his return from injury.

Team-mate Jesse Lingard and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi also took part in the craze, while there was another storm on social media when some stars began attempting to flick tea bags into mugs.

Pepe Reina's eggs-cellent fun

Pepe Reina is having eggs-cellent fun in isolation

Right from his Liverpool days back in the mid-2000s, the Spanish stopper has always been known for sporting a bald bonce with the look almost becoming his trademark.

The on-loan Aston Villa stopper decided to put his hairstyle to some use during the lockdown as he took part in one of the more bizarre social media crazes.

The 37-year-old uploaded a clip of what at first appeared to be a row of eggs, before revealing his head was among them with Queen hit 'I Want To Break Free' playing in the background.

David Luiz's man in the mirror

The Arsenal defender has always been known as one of the game's great characters, so it came as little surprise when he became a social media hit during the lockdown.

In one clip, the Brazil international was seen playing rock, paper, scissors against himself in a mirror, only for it to transpire that things were not as they seemed.

The former Chelsea man was also busy uploading plenty of clips of his daily workouts, showing how dedicated he remained while training grounds were shut.

James Milner gets cracking on the housework

Liverpool's James Milner uses coronavirus break to cut the grass in hilarious fashion

The Liverpool midfielder certainly plays up to his 'boring' persona, and used the lockdown to get through a rather long list of household chores.

The former Man City man cut his grace with painstaking accuracy, perhaps over-prepared to home school his kids by sharpening hundreds of pencils and washed each stone on his driveway individually.

Milner also had time to find items around his pad to create a pun-filled 'Household XI'. Never change, James. Never change.

Jack Wilshere goes in hard

Jack Wilshere doesn't hold back as he flies in with two feet

West Ham's injury-plagued midfielder is not one to shy away from a rough tackle - even if he's just having a kickabout at home with his wife.

The former Arsenal man showed the competitive edge had not left him as he went in two-footed on wife Andriani after she had robbed him of the ball while the pair played in their garden.

Footballers have certainly done their best to keep society entertained with their off-the-pitch antics during the lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

And with the Premier League returning, they will now have a chance to do the same on the field too as the season ticks towards a conclusion later this summer.

We might just have to wait a little while longer for the next bit of social media brilliance from the Premier League's stars.
