'Best midfielder in the league!' - Chelsea fans loved what Mateo Kovacic did during Everton loss

Chelsea suffered their third defeat in five games across all competitions on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues seemed to have turned a corner when they beat Aston Villa in midweek as that put an end to a three-game winless run which includes losses against Manchester City and West Ham United as well as a draw with Valencia in the Champions League.

However, they were brought back down to earth with a bump against managerless Everton.

The Toffees raced into a 2-0 lead with goals either side of the break from Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Having seen their advantage cut in half by Mateo Kovacic, Calvert-Lewin seized on some poor defending from the visitors to make the game safe with his second of the afternoon.

It was the perfect game for interim Everton head coach Duncan Ferguson, but the total opposite for Frank Lampard who made his feelings clear about the performance afterwards.

"The first goal something that we were aware that Richarlison is good in the air in the box," he said.

"Then the other two were just really poor defending from us.

"We looked like we were getting back into the game at 2-1, we can’t give away the ridiculous goals we gave away."

Not many Blues players will emerge from the game at Goodison Park with much credit.

Except perhaps Kovacic. As mentioned above, the Croatia found the back of the net with a fine long-range strike and his performance was described as "brilliant" by one Chelsea fan on Reddit.

This prompted a number of responses to the 35-second video clip of Kovacic's best moments.

One of which states: "From the title I knew exactly which clip was going to be. Stellar performance!" While another thinks there's no question that Kovacic is currently the best midfielder in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the clip of Kovacic retaining possession under immense pressure from Gylfi Sigurdsson prompted another fan on Twitter to label the midfielder as "unreal".
