'Best is yet to come!' - Man Utd star's promise has team-mates gushing as Swansea City debut raises eyebrows

Ethan Laird says the best is yet to come from Swansea City following their first Championship victory under Russell Martin at Bristol City.

The Swans had collected just one of the nine points on offer ahead of the clash with the Robins on Friday night.

However, Joel Piroe's 19th-minute strike proved enough for the visitors to clinch all three points at Ashton Gate as Swansea kept their third clean sheet of the season in all competitions.

Laird - who impressed on his debut against Stoke City - was one of the real bright sparks in the Swans' triumph over Nigel Pearson's men.

And the Manchester United loanee paid tribute to the 2,300 members of the Jack Army who packed out the away end at Bristol City as Swansea tasted victory in the Championship for the first time under the new regime.

"Cmonnn you jacksss," he wrote on his official Instagram account.

"Brilliant to make my full league debut. Great win, the lads dug in deep but the best is yet to come.

"Ps you fans are crazyy! #YJB."

Jamal Lowe, Liam Cullen, Kyle Joseph and Nathan Dyer were among those to reply to the post while Manchester United winger Daniel James simply responded with an applauding emoji along with one of a love heart.

Wales winger James played a key role in Laird's loan move to south Wales, with the defender recently admitting the ex-Swansea attacker gave a glowing assessment of the club.

“Jamo is a good lad and gave me a little debrief on the club,” Laird told the club's official website earlier this month.

“He is a great player, he was successful here and I hope to do the same. He only had good things to say.”

Laird was a key figure under Martin at MK Dons and looks set to nail down the right wing-back position as Connor Roberts continues to recover from a groin injury.
