'Best in the world' - The strange career of free agent linked to Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for free agent midfielder Wato Kuate.

The Cameroon-born 25-year-old is said to be being tracked by the Reds along with QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham.

Given his track record and question marks over his character it has the appearance of an agent trying to drum up a move - as you will see below!

His nomadic career CV

Kuate holds a Portuguese passport and began his career there before being snapped up to play in Manchester City's academy.

According to one of his former managers, he said Juventus and AC Milan were also keen.

After being let go by Manchester City in 2014, he signed for Turkish team Akhisar Belediyespor.

Since then he has played for Asteras Tripoli in Greece, as well in Italy, Israel and Finland. He made quite an impact at Dundee United, despite only making three appearances in 2017.

What happened at Dundee United?

Kuate made his mark immediately with a 30-yard rocked against Greenock Morton, proclaiming his talent according to skipper Sean Dillon.

“His interviews are different, that’s for sure, but it’s a bit of craic," Dillon said.

“I heard he told our club TV that when he’s match fit he’s the best player in that position in the world. For him to say it, he must believe he can be.

“I got chatting to him before and I think, when he went to Man City, he said he’d been at Juventus and AC Milan and had options to go elsewhere. He chose Man City. Obviously it hasn’t worked out for him but he looks good enough.

“I’ve had a few car trips with him trying to get to know him better and he’s a nice fella. If anything, he’s probably a lot quieter in training than he is in his interviews.

It was downhill from there. He was taken off early in the second half of a play-off game and his reaction ensured he would not play for the club again.

Kuate was livid to be replaced and was reportedly involved in a bust-up with Dillon and teammate Mark Durnan as he left the field and sarcastically applauded the home fans as he made his way off.

Asked if it was his last game McKinnon said: “Absolutely. His behaviour will not be tolerated at Dundee United .

“Mark Durnan was telling him to buck up his ideas and, with Wato being a bit of a hothead, he did not take kindly to it. To walk off the park and show disrespect to his team-mates will not be tolerated.”

What went wrong in Finland?

Kuate was most recently playing there for RoPS - his second stint at the club.

According to Iltaleheti, he had already been released once because he would not play within the team structure.

The Finnish outlet report he was let go again in June having failed to mature as a person.

Since then he's been on trial at Doncaster this summer with no deal forthcoming, so this one is unlikely to happen Forest fans.
