Best gloves for men to keep you warm this winter, tried and tested

Modern life has made one particular essential winter accessory a frustrating addition to our seasonal wardrobe. Though there are gloves on the market equipped with special touch-screen sensitive tips, they’re often on the cheaper side in terms of both material and construction – and most importantly, aren’t very chic.

Evidence of humans wearing protective garments over their hands during bitter winters has been found on cave paintings, which suggest that early Homo sapiens wore simple mittens during the Ice Age. Wearing gloves as a demonstration of status or wealth, however, dates all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. The oldest existing gloves were found in Tutankhamun’s Egyptian tomb in 1922.

Whether you see a pair of gloves as a symbol of decadence or simply admire their practicality during the bitterest of months, finding the perfect pair that will last for many more winters to come is no simple task.

Gloves can be extra fiddly during those early morning commutes. When the frost has just settled on the grass and pavements and you can see your breath escape through the fibres of the woollen scarf that is pulled up to your nose, your digits require the utmost protection. But then the bus rolls around, or you find yourself face-to-face with a set of tube barriers.

Your Face ID isn’t recognised due to an excess of wool on your head and around your neck, and the cold sweats begin as you realise that you’re holding up the commuter queue. You attempt to type in your frustratingly long password, teeth hitting faux leather as you pull the fingers off of your gloves one by one in an arduous process that feels like an eternity. Finding your credit card between the folds of your cardholder while wearing gloves is equally out of the question.

Though we can’t necessarily guarantee that this won’t happen while wearing a brand-new pair of winter-ready gloves, we’ve rounded up a selection of the best gloves for men that’ll make holding up the commuter queue worth it. Keep scrolling for more.
