Jet2, G Adventures, Alton Towers and a handful of others have all gone early with discounts on everything from package holidays and escorted tours to attraction tickets and theme-park stays.

Why is it called Black Friday?

It falls on the fourth Friday of November (the day after Thanksgiving in the US), and is seen as the best time to snap up deals ahead of Christmas. Typically, discounts will continue right through the weekend, until Cyber Monday. What was historically a one-day sale has turned into a huge shopping event, spanning the entire weekend and sometimes even the whole month.
The name refers to being “in the black”, which in accounting terms means making a profit. “In the red” in comparison, means losing money. By the 1980s, retailers had dubbed the huge surge of Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving as Black Friday, as it pushed shops from “red” to “black”.

Turns out the former was right, as the retail giant has just announced 12 days of deals starting from Thursday 20 November all the way through to Cyber Monday on 1 December.
It’s promising up to 40 per cent off off on more than a million products, featuring top brands including Ninja, Philips, PlayStation, ghd, and more.
When shopping on Amazon, remember that the retailer often shows discounts against the recommended retail price (RRP), but this isn’t necessarily what the item is usually sold for. Price comparison site camelcamelcamel can help you work out whether you’re getting a good deal.

Will Apple put on a Black Friday sale?

Last year, buying a pair of AirPods 4 got you a £20 gift card, an iPad Air got you a £60 gift card, and the purchase of a 15in MacBook Air nabbed you a hefty £160 gift card.
We’re not sure if Apple will do the same this year, but if it does, you can probably expect it to launch this deal on Black Friday itself (28 November) through to Cyber Monday (1 December).

Though they don’t necessarily need to be avoided at all costs, I would advise caution, as buy now, pay later schemes can tempt you to buy things you can’t really afford or don’t need.
So before you hit checkout on your Black Friday purchases, ask yourself: would I buy this if buy now, pay later wasn’t available? Can I afford to pay this off when I need to?

Thursday 13 November 2025 08:00 , Alex LeeKind of. Apple doesn’t do traditional Black Friday discounts, at least not in the way other retailers do. Instead, the company runs its own four-day shopping event, offering gift cards with select purchases rather than outright price cuts.
Last year, customers could claim gift cards worth up to £160 depending on the device. The biggest rewards were tied to MacBook Air purchases (both the 13in and 15in M3 models), while iPhones, iPads, AirPods, Apple Watches and accessories came with smaller amounts. So while you won’t see Apple slash its own prices this Black Friday, it’ll have gift card bonuses. For the real deals, you’ll want to check third-party retailers.

Beware of scams this Black Friday

My best advice in a nutshell: don’t rush into any purchase, be wary of any deals that seem too good to be true, and be very sceptical about promotions that you receive to your inbox.
Of course, reputable brands will send you emails about their Black Friday sales. But make sure you check for spelling mistakes and suspicious-looking email addresses, and if in doubt, always navigate to the retailer’s website yourself rather than clicking any links.
