Best festival tech: The gadgets you need festival season 2019

It’s nearly summer and that means festivals.

But don’t be caught out with low battery and no water — here are my favourite high and low tech gadgets for having a field day.

Nokia 3310

The classic Nokia 3310 has received a significant upgrade. All of the retro joy, including the game Snake, but with a coloured screen, 3G connectivity, your favourite apps and exceptionally long battery life.

Kodak single-use camera

Go seriously retro with Kodak’s disposable camera. Limit yourself to only 27 photos and be ready for 15-year-olds to approach you and ask: “What’s that you’re holding?”

Sodacado keychain power bank

This tempting avocado power bank goes on a keyring and provides about a phone’s worth of charge for parties and emergencies. Plus, you get to make jokes about being so millennial that you spent £25 on an avocado.

Luci string lights

Cover your tent with solar-powered fairy lights. These come in a portable travel pack so they’re easy to carry. If there’s no sun in the run-up to your festival, you can also charge them using the handy USB port.

Larq water bottle

Larq has developed a “self-cleaning” water bottle which uses ultraviolet light to kill germs festering inside your bottle and purifies the water you put in. It’s great for festivals, where people insist on sharing your bottle. It’s not tested for Strongbow, though, so please stick to H2O.

Garmin Vivoactive 3

Don’t take your Apple Watch to a field — it will lose precious phone charge and either get lost or stolen. If you want a smartwatch to tell the time and track your festival steps try the vivoactive 3. It has up to seven days of battery life so it will even stay charged throughout the marathon that is Burning Man.

Bandolier leather crossbody phone case

It’s rare that I talk about a product “changing my life” but I bought my first Bandolier last week and it is just that. A phone case attached to a leather strap means you can “wear” your iPhone hands-free. It also has a card pouch. Perfect for festivals.
