Best face SPF creams to protect your skin this summer - from Ultrasun to Clarins

We all know a good, high factor, suncream can keep sunburn and wrinkles at bay, but with so many formulas out there, it can be tricky to pick the right one for your skin.

Maybe you prefer a more moisturising cream formula, or need added skincare benefits if you're wearing it every day.

Either way, there's definitely your perfect SPF fit out there.

We've made it quicker and easier for you to find your perfect match as Notebook's beauty team has been testing out five new formulas that claim to protect, while offering something extra for your skin.

Here's what the team thought of them...

Clarins Mineral Sun Care SPF30 Face Fluid

Notebook tester Betty says: ‘This was remarkable for my ultra-sensitive, rosacea-prone skin.

'It goes on as quite a thick application, but it’s very effective and didn’t cause any reaction. All other suncreams I’ve tried have given me spots and flare-ups.'

Ultrasun Face Anti-pigmentation Tinted SPF50+

Beauty director Lynne says: ‘I’m prone to melasma and find the original version of this all-day block the best thing for stopping my pigmentation.

'I like this tinted version even more, because it adds an instant warm glow. I’ll be wearing it all day, all summer.’

TOP TIP!

Don’t save face SPF just for holidays and sunny days.

Wearing it daily, all year round, is the most effective way to slow down ageing.

Avène SPF50+ B-Protect

Beauty editor Octavia says: ‘Comes out of the tube as a white cream, but the tint appeared as I rubbed it in and left a nice, very subtle veil of glowiness – nice for a no-make-up-day look.

'Sank in well and zero irritation, even on my eczema-y bits.’

P20 Face Sun Cream SPF30

Lynne says: ‘This has the same “all-day” promise as P20’s other SPFs, but it’s the brand’s first cream formula.

'Not quite moisturising enough to double as a day cream on my dry skin, but it absorbed easily and is really convenient for keeping you protected for hours.’

Temple Spa Life Defence SPF25

Life defence SPF30 by Temple Spa (HUGH THRELFALL)

Notebook tester Michaela says: ‘I don’t like the feel of most suncreams, but this has proved to me that face SPF can be nice to wear.

'It absorbed easily with a light feel, didn’t leave white streaks, and made my skin feel soft. I like the fact it protects from blue light from phones too.’
