Best electric cars to buy 2022

The cheapest sports EV: Kia EV6 GT Kia’s rapid performance crossover will do 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, which is a ferocious ride for the price. It’s pitching against the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model X with its styling and tech and comes with a battery heat pump as standard to boost cold-weather range. (Picture: Kia)

Once the choice of EVs was severely limited, as was their range and, let’s be honest, desirability. Now however, as sales figures begin to rise (reaching 10 million globally at the end of 2020) and battery capability expands, there’s been an explosion of options as car companies compete to be the petrol-free market leaders.

The problem for consumers is the choice then becomes somewhat overwhelming. Should one go with electric-only companies such as Tesla and newcomers Lucid, or opt for tried and tested family motor brands like Skoda, Volkswagen or BMW? How can you make sure you’re getting what you need in terms of range, speed and wizzy features? And for the right price?

Check out our gallery to find our reviews of the best electric cars from the dozens that are launching in the second half of this year. You’re welcome.
