Velvet Strand, Portmarnock

Velvet Strand in Portmarnock is regarded as the best beach in Dublin by many, and is hugely popular during sunnier days.

The massive expanse goes on for a few kilometres and offers stunning views of Howth and Ireland's Eye. Whether the tide is in or out, it makes for a great swimming spot in Dublin as well.

On a sunny day during the heatwave, it will be packed with families and groups of mates. In that case, walk down the beach away from the village to find a more quiet spot.

Balscadden Beach, Howth

Balscadden Beach in Howth is by far one of the best hidden Dublin beaches to discover when the weather is nice.

Walk past Howth village, past the pier and up the hill towards Howth Head. Keep an eye out for a small beach down below and a set of steep steps leading down to it behind an unsuspecting gate.

Red Rock Beach, Sutton

If we're going to talk about the best hidden beaches in Dublin, then Red Rock Beach in Sutton tops that list.

You will find it by completing the whole Howth Head Cliff Walk or a short walk from Sutton. Once you reach it, you'll be able to perch yourself up on the rocks before getting in for a dip, which is most enjoyable during a nice sunset after a hot day during the heatwave.

Dollymount Strand, Clontarf/Raheny

Dollymount Strand on Bull Island is a massive beach stretching for an impressive 5km. While swimming here mostly takes place at the wall at the end of the wooden bridge, a picnic in the dunes is something that should be on your bucket list for a sunny day in Dublin.

Killiney Beach

Located to the south of Killiney Hill, Killiney Beach is a lovely pebble beach with gorgeous views of Bray and Dublin Bay.

This Dublin beach stretches on for a few kilometres and offers some lovely swimming opportunities.

Burrow Beach, Sutton

Burrow Beach is another wonderful Dublin beach where you can enjoy a sunny day of swimming, relaxing and fun beach activities.

It's conveniently located close to Sutton DART Station, the beach stretches for 1.2km and features vast sandy dunes, offering up plenty of spots to throw down a picnic blanket and set up camp for the day.

Portrane Beach

Portrane Beach is a 2km stretch of sandy beach lined with dunes located in North County Dublin, acting as a great little escape when the weather is nice.

Sandycove Beach

This small Dublin beach located at a quaint little harbour is a popular swimming spot in south County Dublin.

It is popular with families during a heatwave in Dublin as there are shallow waters to paddle in. The views are also a major attraction here, being perhaps some of the nicest out of any of the beaches in Dublin.

Donabate Beach

Donabate is a lovely seaside area of north County Dublin and is home to a stunning beach.

There are beautiful views of Lambay Island, Howth Head and Malahide Estuary and it is often busy with walkers and swimmers.

Malahide Beach

Malahide is arguably one of the prettiest towns surrounding Dublin, and also has one of the most beautiful Dublin beaches.

While swimming is strictly prohibited here, the bumpy dunes and stretches of sand make it one of the most picturesque places to relax in the sun in Dublin during the heatwave.

Skerries Beach

Skerries Harbour is the only west facing harbour on the east coast of Ireland, making this one of the best places to catch the sunset during summer.

You will find sandy beaches on both sides of the town with plenty of opportunities to get in for a dip.
