The first ever consumer pricing study of its kind has revealed that Sunday, November 24 is the cheapest day to Christmas shop on average - but there are some specific days to look out for bargains on key items.

Saturday, September 21 - for example - is the cheapest day to pick up an advent calendar - while December 4 is the most expensive as people rush to get the forgotten item.

The study by leading shopping price comparison site, idealo.co.uk pinpoints the cheapest and most expensive day to Christmas shop based on the average prices between September and December 25 of more than 2,500 gifts across 50 product categories ranging from perfume and fragrances to TVs.

Taking a closer look at the most popular Christmas gifts sold in recent years, idealo.co.uk data has revealed the cheapest day to buy a mountain bike will be on Sunday, December 22, with a saving of over £70.
