Best Christmas wreaths: from fresh floral to bauble wreaths, these are the best designs to buy in the UK for Christmas 2019

Never is a house more wonderfully decorated than at Christmastime. From the tinsel-covered tree to the festive candles burning in every room and stockings ripe for stuffing, we all enjoy the ritual of turning our homes into our own private Christmas wonderlands.

A wreath is a part of that ritual. The first thing to welcome guests as well as the postman delivering your Christmas mail, they’re a great way to spread a little festive cheer before anyone even steps foot inside.

If you’re in the market for a wreath this year, the good news is that there is more choice this year than ever.

Here’s our rundown of the best wreaths:

  • Artificial wreaths: made to look like a fresh wreath but with faux leaves, this has all the look and glamour of real but without the maintenance and expense. Some even have fairy lights strewn in for extra dazzlement.
  • Real wreaths: made with fir branches and speckled with pine cones, twigs, ribbons and holly, these are normally offered by florists. These are best placed on your front door as the central heating in your home means they will only last two weeks tops, as opposed to four or even five if hung outside and spritzed with water occasionally.
  • Bauble wreaths: if you’ve got a bit of a thing for baubles, this is the one for you. Usually set on a plastic hoop, it consists of arrangements of colour-coordinated orbs with maybe the odd bell thrown in for cheery jingles. This is a great option for those who don’t want to spring for the cost of a real wreath, which can be quite expensive and need to be replaced every year.
  • Contemporary wreaths: fancy a wreath with a modern twist? Whether you prefer a DIY for a handmade feel, a pared back Scandi-cool version made solely with fake twigs or a personalised one inscribed with your family name, there’s a wreath out there with your name on it.

We’ve gathered our favourites below to make it easier than ever to add one to your Christmas decorations this year.
