Blackspots where it is hardest to get social care for an elderly relative to remain at home have been revealed.
Many areas of Britain have only one social carer for every two in-house care roles which need to be filled, researchers discovered.
Alzheimer’s Society chief Fiona Carragher said: “People tell us daily what a nightmare it is trying to get care. It is unacceptable people with dementia should also have to fight an inaccessible, cash-starved social care system.”
Exeter was the area where families have the worst chance of finding a carer, with an average of 0.48 carers per in-house care role, while Luton had the best provision, with 2.38.

Care.com’s research comes as a report from influential think-tank the King’s Fund found social care in England is at “crisis point”.
But the Department of Health said: “We have given local authorities access to up to £3.9billion more dedicated funding for adult social care this year.”
The Mirror revealed 600 people a week are having to quit work to care for a loved one full-time.
