Besotted Edinburgh B&Q worker reunites with shopper who caught his eye on shift

By Abbie Meehan

An Edinburgh B&Q worker has reunited with the unknown shopper who grabbed his attention while serving him and his grandad at work in Hermiston Gait.

Alexander Cameron, 30, spoke to Edinburgh Live last week about his mission to contact a shopper who he hit it off with while working in the Hermiston Gait B&Q in Edinburgh.

Alexander said: "I just thought it would be the best way to try and find him, but I really didn't expect people to be so supportive about it.

"We spoke for about 20 minutes the last time I saw him (the day he was in the Edgar Allan Poe shirt) and I just couldn't get the courage to ask him out.

"He seemed a bit surprised that I understood his t-shirt and then we started reciting The Raven to each other. It was incredibly funny and awkward but it was great.

"He was just nice and the gay dating world is terrible. So, I thought how nice it was to actually meet someone in-person as opposed to a dating app.

"However, now I'm using Facebook to try to find him... I don't know if he's single, I don't know if he enjoyed our interactions as much as I did. But I regret not asking so I want to find out now."

Now, Alexander and the mystery man have met up for coffee, and plan to see each other again, but it's not the intense romantic comedy the public have been expecting.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live earlier, Alex said: "A family friend of his saw the article and sent it to him. We met for coffee on Sunday.

"I was going to take a photo of the drinks but we got them to takeaway and went for a very long walk. Went to The Milkman on Cockburn St in the Old Town.

"We are going to see each other again, nothing in the diary at the moment though.

"The only bit of Poe we talked about was that he was surprised that I found the image that is on the t-shirt he had worn that day I last saw him at B&Q.

"Just to be clear, we are not "dating" we are just getting to know each other. We have no other intentions at this point.

"We're going to still meet but there is not pressure or expectation right now."

We are still holding out hope that this budding something turns into an Edinburgh romance that Netflix can only dream of writing up!
