Berwick MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan handed ministerial job by Boris Johnson

Berwick MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan has been handed a Government job by Boris Johnson .

The pro-Brexit MP was an enthusiastic supporter of Mr Johnson's bid to become Prime Minister and has been rewarded with the ministerial post of parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Ministry of Defence.

It's part of the latest round of appointments in the new PM's radical shake up of the Government.

Mr Johnson moved swiftly to overhaul the cabinet, sacking several ministers who had supported Theresa May's Brexit deal and backed leadership rival Jeremy Hunt.

Liam Fox, Penny Mordaunt and Greg Clark were among the big names unceremoniously booted out on a dramatic night of political maneuvering.

Other well known ministers like Philip Hammond, Chris Grayling and Rory Stewart resigned before Mr Johnson took office.

Anne-Marie Trevelyan's last held a Government job in November 2018 but resigned over Theresa May's Withdrawal Agreement.

She has been heavily involved with Mr Johnson's campaign to become Conservative Party leader.

Mrs Trevelyan posted on Twitter "it is such an honour to be invited by the PM...to join the ministerial team".

She spoke out about defence spending in Parliament earlier this month.

As reported by Chronicle Live, Anne-Marie Trevelyan said: "The shortfall in funding and financial frameworks leaves us horribly exposed to unknown threats."

Speaking in Parliament, she told Ministers: "I worry about how our political leaders sleep soundly at night."

It's all change in the great offices of state: Sajid Javid has been made Chancellor; Priti Patel has been made Home Secretary; and Dominic Raab has been made Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State.
