Bertie Auld remembered by Celtic fans outside Parkhead as supporters mourn legendary Lisbon Lion

Fans have left scarves, flowers and written tributes outside Celtic Park in honour of legend Bertie Auld.

The iconic Lisbon Lion sadly passed away on Sunday at the age of 83, sparking an outpouring of support from across Scottish football.

Pictures from outside Parkhead showed supporters gathering to show their grief after a huge loss to Celtic and our game as a whole.

Some wrapped scarves around the statue outside the ground of Billy McNeill lifting the European Cup in honour of Auld's role in the historic victory.

Team replica shirts were also left in his memory with touching tributes along the bars of the stadium.

Candles and flowers were also left along the Celtic Way approaching the ground.

Auld spent 12 years at his beloved Celtic across two spells and brought a huge trophy haul to Glasgow's east end.

He won five Scottish titles, three Scottish Cups and four League Cups alongside the famous victory in Lisbon.

He also found success in management, bringing old First Division titles to both Partick Thistle and Hibs.

An icon of the Scottish game, he was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

Celtic chairman Ian Bankier led the tributes to a club great, stating: “I don’t think words can ever adequately describe what Bertie meant to the club and our supporters. He was a giant of a player, a giant of a man and quite simply Mr. Celtic.

“He scaled the greatest of heights as a player with his talent but it is who he was as a man that made him so much more to us all.

“He enriched all our lives so greatly with his humour, his character and personality and for that we will forever be grateful."
