Bertie Auld dead aged 83 as Celtic mourn the loss of another legendary Lisbon Lion

Lisbon Lion and Celtic legend Bertie Auld has sadly passed away at the age of 83.

The Scotland cap spent 12 years at Parkhead across two spells and played a massive part in their heroic run to European Cup glory under Jock Stein.

Aside from achieving European glory he became an integral part of the side that won nine league titles in a dominant era for the Parkhead club.

Auld first left Parkhead for Birmingham City and he went on to impress south of the border.

However, he would return to his beloved Celtic for a second spell which included the historic victory in Lisbon over Inter Milan.

Auld played at the heart of the midfield as the Lisbon Lions cemented their place in Scottish football folklore in 1967.

He would go on to play for Hibs, before moving into a coaching role and rounding off his playing career at Easter Road.

Auld earned three Scotland caps during his playing days, and also enjoyed a spell in management.

He had spells in charge of Hibs, Hamilton Accies, Partick Thistle and Dumbarton.

It was while in charge of the Jags the Maryhill native lifted the First Division championship in 1976.

Auld was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2009 as his legendary career was recognised by the SFA.

Following his retirement from the game, Auld was a beloved figure around Celtic Park regularly appearing at games and club events.

A giant of the game, Auld would regularly make cameo appearances on Celtic TV and his beaming smile and infectious personality will live long in Celtic fans memories.

He was also known among fans for his story telling, including a hilarious tale of an exchange with Rangers legend John Greig in the tunnel before derby day.

Auld recollected Greig asking him "How much bonus you on today"

He replied "£3 about you?".

Greig quipped back "Is that all I'm on £6"

Auld hit back with "Yes but I am guaranteed 3."
