Bertie Auld: Celtic icon and former Hamilton boss dead aged 83

Celtic legend and former Hamilton Accies manager Bertie Auld has died at the age of 83.

From Strathaven, Auld is well-known for his time as a player at Celtic, where he wrote himself into Scottish football folklore by winning the European Cup with the Hoops.

He was also capped by Scotland.

After leaving Celtic, he finished his playing career at Hibs, while he took in a short stint as manager of Hamilton between 1982-83.

Auld also had spells as boss at Partick Thistle, Hibs and Dumbarton.

The Lisbon Lion was a beloved figure around Celtic and regularly appeared at games and club events at Parkhead.

The former Accies boss was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year. His death has sent shockwaves around Scottish football and tributes have started to pour in from around the community.

Celtic's statement reads: "Bertie Auld always loved being a Celt, and the Celtic supporters loved him in return.

"Bertie would later go into football management with Partick Thistle, Hibernian, Hamilton and Dumbarton, but his heart was always at Paradise.

"Rest in peace, Bertie. You’ll Never Walk Alone."
