Bernie Taupin taunts Rod Stewart with cheeky joke amid rocker's feud with Sir Elton John

Sir Elton John's long-term collaborator Bernie Taupin has mocked Rod Stewart amid his feud with the Tiny Dancer hitmaker.

On Thursday evening the songwriter - who has penned lyrics for a number of songs including Bennie and the Jets, I'm Still Standing and Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word - took to Instagram to throw a dig at 75-year-old rocker Rod.

Making light of Rod's feud with Elton, 73, Bernie, 70, shared a snap of himself pointing as he stood next to colleague and pal Elton.

"Hey isn’t that Rod Stewart waiting in line to get your book signed?” he penned next to the snap.

Talented lyricist Bernie also added a number of hashtags that read: "@eltonjohn #me #autobiography #paperback #ejbtforever #tbtfun #sometimeinnewyorkcity."

Mirror Online have contacted reps for Bernie, Sir Rod and Sir Elton for comment.

Bickering pair Rod and Elton haven't spoken for two years with Sir Rod saying the 'stubborn' singers fell out after he poked fun at Elton's retirement tour.

Rod accepts he criticised his farewell gigs, calling them 'money-grabbing' - but wants to patch things up with his former pal.

Elton is also said to be particularly angry over a dig Rod made at Rocketman, the 2018 biopic made about him.

Rod recently told Chris Evans on his podcast that he handed an olive branch to Elton - which has been ignored.

The Maggie May singer said that he had invited the star and his family to his home in Essex, where he has a football pitch in his grounds.

Rod revealed: "We don't talk to each other anymore. Big falling out.

"Last time I emailed him I said, 'I've got this football pitch, would you like the boys to come up?' You know, cos they both love football."

Sir Elton allegedly never replied.

It has been reported that the former Watford chairman was hurt by Rocketman being compared to Abba musical Mamma Mia in a cheeky comment by Sir Rod.
