Bernie Sanders supporters: who will you vote for in November?

Back in February, Jill Kapson answered a question posed by the Guardian: why Bernie Sanders?

He “energizes people”, Kapson, a small-business owner in Chicago, wrote in response. “He admits that even as president, nothing will change if the people of the United States don’t get involved. He deeply and sincerely cares.”

Flash forward nearly six months, and the upstart campaign branded “a political revolution” by Sanders himself ended with an endorsement for Hillary Clinton. That leaves a pressing question for his supporters: who will they vote for in November? Will they vote in November?

“Absolutely, I will vote,” Kapson replied when we reached out to her again, along with several other February respondents. “It just might not be for anyone on the ballot. I will most likely vote for Bernie Sanders, even if it means writing him in.”

Sidney Bennett was a pledged Democratic delegate to Sanders; the retired Nashville lawyer said she hadn’t been so excited about a candidate since Ted Kennedy. But “I took an oath that I would support the Democratic nominee – whoever that may be,” Bennett said. “And that’s what I will do.”

But Clinton cannot count on every single voter who felt the Bern.

“Hillary Clinton claimed the nomination, but the process that got us to this point has been so questionable,” Walker Bragman said. “I am undecided who I will vote for – but it will not be Clinton.”

We’ve collected your submissions telling us who you plan to vote for. Thank you for participating. We’ve published a selection of contributions. Many of you said Green party nominee Jill Stein is an attractive alternative to Sanders.
