Bernie Sanders echoes LeBron’s support for paying college athletes

LeBron James doesn’t like the NCAA and the way he believes they profit off of student athletes. This is a well-documented fact at this point and if his statements about the organization’s corruption weren’t facts enough, the documentary he produced “Student Athlete” shows how college athletes of all levels are manipulated by a system that doesn’t allow them to make money off of the revenue they generate. It’s why he threw his support behind the California Fair Pay to Play Act which was introduced in the California state legislature earlier this year. And LeBron’s support of the bill caught the attention of U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who echoed LeBron’s words that college athletes should be paid.

The earliest that the law can go into effect is 2023. If California were to pass the bill, it would be quite the blow to the NCAA and could create a chain reaction across the country for all high level college programs.
