Bernie Sanders' campaign says it raised $34.5 million in Q4

Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign said Thursday that it raised $34.5 million in 2019's fourth quarter, the New York Times reports.

Why it matters: Sanders' haul is the most any candidate has raised in a single quarter so far in the Democratic primary race, easily surpassing the $25.3 million he raked in during Q3.

  • Sanders received more than 1.8 million donations in the quarter, with an average donation of $18.53.

The state of play: While Sanders is one of the first candidates to announce his fundraising for the quarter, it's unlikely to be topped by any of his competitors.

  • Pete Buttigieg's campaign said it raised $24.7 million during the same span, while Andrew Yang's campaign announced it had pulled in $16.5 million.
  • Elizabeth Warren's campaign warned its supporters last week that it had only raised $17 million, triggering a fundraising push to reach $20 million by the end of the year.
