Bernie Ecclestone provides glimmer of hope with Michael Schumacher health update

Bernie Ecclestone has provided a positive update about Michael Schumacher's health and believes the F1 champion will make a recovery.

The unique insight into Schumacher's condition was given by Ecclestone in a documentary film about the German F1 legend called 'Schumacher' set to be released on December 5 in German-speaking countries – with the rights for foreign countries still in the process of being sold.

The film, which had the full support of Schumacher's wife Corinna and the rest of the family, will detail the unique life and racing career of Michael and his skiing accident on December 29 2013 in which the F1 record champion suffered severe head trauma.

In a trailer for the documentary, which was shared with German media, former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, 88, made a statement about Schumacher's health.

Ecclestone reportedly said: “He is not with us at this moment. But when he is better, he will answer all the questions.”

The statement is illustrated by directors Michael Wech and Hanns-Bruno Kammertoens by showing snow-capped mountains.

According to local media, Ecclestone's statement provides both fears and hope about Schumacher's condition.

One German daily wrote that “it makes it clear how much the consequences of the ski accident still affect Schumacher five years later” while Ecclestone's second sentence also “gives hope for a successful recovery”.

Schumacher's family and management have so far been extremely reluctant to share any information about Michael's condition.

Schumacher is currently being treated at his home in Switzerland on the shores of Lake Geneva where his wife Corinna has reportedly built an in-house clinic and amassed a team of doctors and nurses to oversee his treatment and rehabilitation.

Corinna herself, as well as Michael's father Rolf, will also reportedly feature in the documentary, with Corinna saying: “Michael is a fighter and will not give up."
