Bernie Ecclestone, 89, says he hopes to 'live long enough' to see baby son grow up

Bernie Ecclestone has addressed the sizeable age gap between himself and his newborn son for the first time since becoming a father for the fourth time.

The 89-year-old ex Formula One boss and wife Fabiana Flosi, 44, welcomed baby Alexander Charles Ecclestone on Wednesday.

Days after the proud parents announced the safe arrival of the son they've already nicknamed 'Ace', Bernie has reflected on how he's settling in to his new role ahead of his milestone 90th birthday this year.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the business magnate said: "I just hope I live long enough to see as much of our baby as I can."

Since standing down as F1 chief in 2017, billionaire Bernie said he's grateful to have more time on his hands so that he can spend as much time with his boy as possible.

"It’s all very good, I am very happy. It’s different now," he explained. "I’m more relaxed and my work is not so pressured so I can spend more time with him."

When asked if he'd be changing nappies, Bernie replied: "I doubt it. I will do what is asked."

Fabiana, who is Bernie's third wife, gave birth to Ace in Switzerland on Wednesday where the family have been spending their time in lockdown.

On Friday, the mum said "It could not have gone better. we are thrilled as a family."

Bernie already has lots of experience raising children as he has three children from his previous marriages and five grandchildren.

His eldest Deborah, 65, was born to his first wife Ivy Bamford.

Bernie then welcomed daughters Tamara, 35, and Petra, 31, with second wife Slavica Radic.

Bernie then married third wife Fabiana in 2012.

Earlier this week, proud mum Fabiana described Ace's birth as 'easy' and he arrived within 25 minutes.
