Bernd Leno sets ambitious Arsenal target ahead of Gunners' Dubai training camp

Arsenal's hopes of a top four finish may have all but faded away but Bernd Leno has not given up hope of silverware this season as the Gunners prepare to fly out to Dubai for a warm weather training camp.

Mikel Arteta's side are 10 points off fourth-placed Chelsea with 13 games of the season remaining but have shown little inclination for closing that gap in recent weeks with just one Premier League win to their name since the Spaniard was appointed in late December.

Champions League qualification would offer a minimum £40million boon to Arsenal's funds and would also aid significantly in their attempts to retain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid interest from Barcelona. If a top four finish appears to be an unlikely avenue for that aim there is still the Europa League, whose winners qualify for the top-tier competition.

Arsenal are also well-placed in the FA Cup, wins over Leeds United and Bournemouth having set them up for a fifth round tie away to Portsmouth of League One.

Mikel Arteta: We were so sloppy

The Gunners came within 90 minutes of Europa League glory last season, losing 4-1 to Chelsea in the final in Baku, and Leno says they are determined to go one step further this time.

"Maybe this process takes time but we have to win games," the Gunners' goalkeeper said.

"In the Europa League and FA Cup we have so many difficult games, so many big games because we saw last season that in the Europa League quarter-finals and semi-finals you get Champions League teams.

"They are all playing for the title and the final was Arsenal against Chelsea [last season], so it was a very, very big game.

"We want to have this final again and also in the FA Cup. Everybody told me that the FA Cup final at Wembley is unbelievable with the atmosphere and it is also a trophy, a title and we are looking forward to playing these games.

"Hopefully we can win a title this season."

Arsenal are due to gather in Dubai tomorrow morning for a warm weather training camp headed up by Arteta. Much of the squad have already arrived in the United Arab Emirates for holidays with the remainder flying out on Thursday night.

"It's good to go away," Arteta said. "The players have been through a lot.

"The last two or three months have been tough for them so I want to give them a few days off. Then we're going to go to Dubai, start working and focus on Newcastle."
