Bernd Leno forced off injured on stretcher - and fumes at Neal Maupay as he leaves pitch

Bernd Leno angrily shouted at Neal Maupay as he came off on a stretcher after suffering an injury in Arsenal's Premier League clash with Brighton.

The Gunners keeper landed awkwardly on his leg, which collapsed underneath him, after he challenged Maupay in the air for the ball.

Sky Sports refused to show a full replay of Leno suffering the injury due to its distressing nature.

Maupay looked miffed as Leno pointed at him and shouted something as medical staff removed him from the pitch at the Amex Stadium for treatment.

On BT Sport at half time Rio Ferdinand said: "You can't blame Maupay for that, it's a contact sport. It's a foul but it's not malicious nor excessive force, come on."

Peter Crouch added: "I think he's left a bit on him there. I have been in that position myself where I've been a bit frustrated. He's been a bit naughty there."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta lost both Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari to injury against Manchester City on Wednesday night, and now it appears that Leno will be out for some time.

Calum Chambers is also out for the Gunners, alongside Cedric Soares and Sokratis, meaning Arteta has a huge problem in defence currently.

Midfielder Lucas Torreira is also out of action with an ankle injury.

Leno was Arsenal's best player against Manchester City on Wednesday, and kept the scores level before a David Luiz mistake put it on a plate for Raheem Sterling.

Another Luiz error in the second half saw City awarded a penalty, which Kevin de Bruyne rifled home.

Phil Foden scored the final goal of the game.
