Bernd Leno has opened the door to a departure from Arsenal, with contract talks yet to begin between the German and the Gunners.
Leno has established himself as Mikel Arteta ’s first-choice goalkeeper, appearing in all but one of the club’s Premier League games this season.
The 29-year-old has become a solid goalkeeper at the Emirates since joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen for £22.50million in the summer of 2018.
Leno’s form for the Gunners has also earned him call-ups to the German national side, but with his current contract expiring in June 2023, talks between him and the club should be imminent.
The goalkeeper though has revealed that those talks have not yet begun, but insisted he is not concerned.
“No, not yet,” he said when asked if he had begun contract talks with the Gunners.
“At this moment it's not the time to speak about the future. I know that I still have two years left and I'm also 29, for a goalkeeper that is not too old.”
Despite his lack of concern that those talks have not begun, Leno has also admitted that he would be willing to leave the Gunners.
“I've still some years to go. I'm very happy in the club. I don't know what will come in the future. I'm open for everything: for a new adventure or to stay at Arsenal,” he said.
“But, like I said, at the moment I don't think about my future because two years are still a long time. At the moment there are no conversations with the club or something else.”
If Leno did depart, it would be almost certainly force Arsenal to enter into the market to sign a new keeper, after they allowed Emiliano Martinez to join Aston Villa ahead of the current campaign.
The other two goalkeepers currently in the squad are Runar Alex Runarsson, whose ability to establish himself at the club remains in serious doubt, and Mat Ryan, who is not a viable long-term starter.
